Storm Doors and Architectural Style

By Jill Wuertz, Bayer Built Woodworks Product Manager

Your front entry unit provides character and sets the style for the inside of your home. If you are considering a storm door, don’t forget to carry this over. After you’ve considered sun exposure and proper ventilation needed for your application, think about the style of  system that you want. Storm doors should help to accentuate your front entry unit, not detract from its character.

Generally, a full view storm door will help you maintain the style and integrity of your entry unit, as the majority of the entry door will be visible from the curb. Half or three quarter glass storm doors are more casual and are generally reserved for rear or less formal entries. Storm doors with panels or decorative glass should be used in applications where shape and design is in proportion with the entry door. In the right application a storm door can provide protection along with style, functionality and durability.
