The song Auld Lang Syne is traditional sung at midnight to toast in the New Year. Auld Lang Syne  means “old long ago” or “the good old days.”

The first New York New Year’s Eve ball (dropped in 1907) weighted 700 pounds and was 5 feet in diameter – it was made of wood and iron. The modern New York New Year’s Eve ball  weighs over 1,000 pounds and houses over 9,000 LED lights.

Superstition says that the first people you see after ringing in the New Year will bring you either good or bad luck, depending on who you keep as friends and enemies. This is why most people celebrate New Year’s Eve with friends and family.
